On June 24, the company abruptly shut down its Discord channel. Some customers claimed on Twitter that this was done in an effort to prevent them from sharing information and complaints. At the time, CEO Gibbs—who is also Gosker’s co-founder—told CoinDesk that the company had trouble connecting with its customers and that the Discord move was intended to streamline customer care.
One former Compass Mining employee told news website that “a lot of things are extremely poorly managed and performed on, which gives people the sense that they’re dishonest.” The worker didn’t want to be named out of concern for legal action.
Customers have voiced complaints about buildout delays in South Carolina, Nebraska, and Ontario during the past year.
A provider of services, Compass Mining runs bitcoin mines all over the world and offers hashrate for sale to regular consumers on its website. Following the Biden administration’s imposition of sanctions on Russian miner BitRiver, the company early this year lost access to about $30 million in equipment.
